We needed support to develop our web application and website.

Nextly offers remote staff augmentation services and has developed our web application's front- and backend, which runs on AWS. The team has also built our website. Nextly has demonstrated they have experience in the different technologies we wanted to use on this project, which include Node.js, React, Lambda, AWS, Amazon S3, Amazon Cognito, and Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS). Initially, I spent a couple of calls with Nextly's lead engineer reviewing our project, and within that week, he delivered a complete list of my application's requirements. He has ensured to demonstrate he understood all of our requirements by providing a detailed document. When Nextly was developing our website, the team had already built several components of the web app and was able to reuse a lot of the code they had created. The site has been developed from scratch and hosted on Amazon S3 and serves in a content delivery network and AWS. The team has designed the website UI and created animations. Nextly has worked in collaboration with our UI designer.

We work with three frontend engineers, a UI/UX designer, and two backend engineers, one of whom is the lead engineer. We've also had assistance from Nextly's CTO early on.

We've spent around $75,000 on this project.

Nextly has completed our website and web app. We've received several signups for our waitlist and are working through it to start our closed beta phase with the people from the waitlist. I'm impressed by Nextly's ability to create a well-designed app in terms of aesthetics and UI. The team has done a pixel-to-pixel recreation of the design created by our internal UI designer, which is incredible. I'm very happy with the quality of the look and feel. Nextly has created an impressive design for an MVP product. Our goal was to stay a bit scrappy and ensure we could design on top of it in the future stages of our MVP. Nextly has architected the app in a way that allows us to grow easily, and thanks to the resilient architecture, we've been able to modify the app quickly and easily. Nextly has created a website that runs well and has great animations. Initially, we didn't have a clear idea of the animation work we wanted on the site, but we knew we wanted it to have movement, and Nextly's team proposed great ideas that we accepted. Nextly has demonstrated robust technical skills.

Luis (Software Architect) has been phenomenal in helping us understand work. I've taken solutions to him, and on more than one occasion, he has come back proposing a better way to accomplish the same solution. He demonstrates how to find a better solution and is an excellent asset to our project. He has simplified our architecture and design and, overall, made things better.

One thing that stands out to me, which I wasn't expecting, is that I came to them because I thought I needed technology-specific support rather than business logic support. However, once Nextly understood what our company is about and what we're trying to pull off, they found people within their staff with previous experience in the same domain we required. Nextly has pulled them into the project to work on some very business-specific functions, which has been incredible.

We haven't encountered any issues working with Nextly. At one point, some engineers were doing refactoring while we were trying to get the website launched, and the lead engineer stopped them when he realized they were working on refactoring instead of the outstanding tickets. Nextly caught and addressed the issue and didn't charge me for that work because they knew that wasn't what I wanted to accomplish at that point. Nextly has been incredible to work with at every step of the way.

Having Nextly's lead engineer assigned to our project has been really good for us because I can't spend my time directing the engineering team. The fact that I have someone to rely on who directs the team, guides them, and also maintains stability throughout the project while teammates have rolled on and rolled off has been the most effective thing.

Manual testing and UI test automation on all our projects. Software development of supporting systems like web pages, partner portal and platforms.

We needed to strengthen our development team with more testers and this we found in Sri Lanka and 99X. Here we find a lot of competent and skilled people. Later we wanted to expand with developers when we started to develop new systems that supports our CRM offering. The success is that we work tightly with our colleagues in 99X on a daily basis and are able to deliver with quality on a frequent basis.

The way we work with our team members in 99X is that we have both testers and developers in Norway and Sri Lanka. These people work geographically in two locations (or more), but work as one team with daily stand ups and frequent planning meetings. We have Scrum Masters both in Norway and Sri Lanka.

99X understand Norwegian and European culture, they are flexible with helping us finding the right resource or relocate resources to other teams/projects for mutual benefits if things does not work out. It is important for us that 99X has a healthy and sound HR policy and work conditions and by that have happy employees. That 99X have good ratings in Great Place to Work is good.

If we have any concerns we have great communication channels with 99X and we sort things out. 99X is always listening and helpful. New challenges and areas of improvement will always arise, but this is a responsibility for both parties to resolve. The most important thing is that the communication works well between our two companies.

Nextly could communicate better in terms of any issues that crop up in relation to the resource we have. Usually, no news is good news. At the same time, it’s always good to get confirmation that everyone’s happy and we’re on the same page.

Initially, I spoke with one of Nextly’s team members via Google Meet and discussed what we needed in terms of React-based development. They said they had the right person for us. Within 24–48 hours, I was back on a call with that person.

As the CTO of our company, I’m responsible for making sure our code is of high quality — Nextly is perfect on that. From a cost perspective, their services are less expensive than if we use a US-based team. While it’s hard to put how much we save in numbers, I can say that they’re half the cost of a full-time US-based developer with the same level of quality and quantity.

While the process has its bumps along the way, I like that Nextly’s resources are self-sufficient. We plan our sprints, and they hit their goals at the end of the week. I’m truly pleased with that. In terms of budget, we lock in a certain number of hours a week. We rarely have to go beyond our budget unless we have a pressing matter or complicated task to accomplish.

We’re pleased with Nextly’s talent and our smooth transition. Their management team is highly accommodating and always available for conversations. They check in on our needs and are flexible. If someone’s on vacation, they work hard to fill the role if we need it.

We’ve been finishing two incredibly complicated projects in the last four months, and the resources have taken longer to finish. However, this isn’t only for them; it’s also for our internal engineering team — the projects are simply too complicated.

Treat the Nextly resources as a part of your team. You have to be involved and take ownership of the engagement and management of the resources. If you simply throw things at the wall, they’ll never get done, and the results won’t be good.
