I’m a senior product manager at a public safety technology company building a VR product.

We needed to develop a mixed reality (MR) prototype. We wanted to explore the use of MR technology and see if it would perform at the quality we needed to build something for our customers.

Lucid Reality Labs developed an MR prototype for us. It was a prototyping effort to evaluate the technology. We provided Lucid Reality Labs with detailed requirements, and they came back with a tentative project schedule. They developed the prototype in Unity and delivered it in biweekly sprints. The team delivered versions of the prototype so that we could give feedback and reevaluate the priorities. Throughout the process, we gave the team feedback until they delivered the final prototype.

We worked with a senior Unity developer, a Unity developer, a 3D animator, and a project manager. A technical lead, Willy, was also very involved in the project and joined all of our meetings.

I found them on Clutch. I had worked with them previously when I was at another company, which is when I found them. I chose them due to their technical expertise and the other products they had worked on; I was impressed by the quality of their work and the structure of the team. We were looking for some flexibility because it was a prototype, and their proposal accounted for that really well compared to others that we looked at.

Lucid Reality Labs’ work met our expectations. Since this was a prototype development, we never planned to release it to users, so we don't have quantitative metrics.

They delivered the work on time and on budget. We had some requirements that we didn't expect to fit into the project, and Lucid Reality Labs was able to complete most of them while being ahead of schedule. We communicated via Slack and phone calls and met weekly. They managed the project using Jira and shared an export of their work, the sprint, and task details with me weekly.

We reached out to Lucid Reality Labs to produce a promotional video. We had an existing video that we needed to update to show the functionality of our instruments.

Lucid Reality Labs helped us with video production. We had a kickoff call to discuss the project's scope and deliverables. We provided the team with materials and instructions on what we needed to update on the video. Lucid Reality Labs returned to ensure the scope of work was correct and then moved forward to update the video. We had several rounds of additional edits and Lucid Reality Labs delivered a five-minute video with 3D animations.

We worked with four teammates overall. Tatiana was on the kickoff call, and Alex was our day-to-day contact. We also worked with one or two creative teammates who designed the video.

Lucid Reality Labs was an internal referral. The team was already working with our lab automation team on the VR technology they use, who referred our communications department to Lucid Reality Labs.

We used this video as part of our promotional tactics that reached up to 30 affiliates worldwide. The final video exceeded our expectations, and we were very impressed overall. Lucid Reality Labs made a lot of suggestions that enhanced the quality of the video beyond what we thought we could do.

Lucid Reality Labs delivered work on time and within budget. The team came in at an exceptionally low cost and was very affordable. Lucid Reality Labs' communication was efficient via phone calls, emails, and Google Meet. We collaborated via Google Drive.

Lucid Reality Labs delivered an even better product than we envisioned.

I can't think of any areas for improvement for the team.

The project consisted of a custom VR experience on the Oculus Quest 2 headset to train students in core cognitive skills needed for life saving rescues. Two custom environments were created to host a collection of eight immersive and engaging scenarios to achieve learning objectives. A custom web application Admin Panel was also developed by Lucid Reality Labs to assign training modules and review performance metrics collected from trainees in the VR training scenarios.

The solution was designed to be easily scalable with integrations to our internal learning center providing access to all students that are trained annually on our system (200,000+).

Working with Lucid Reality Labs was a seamless experience. They consistently delivered all items on time. Our company supplied the subject matter expertise and product requirements, while Lucid Reality Labs’ technology leads managed the development process efficiently. They received our requirements, broke down tasks, and delivered according to the provided estimates. When we offered feedback, they communicated any reprioritizations clearly and acted on our feedback promptly.

The development team’s innovative approach to enhancing our training experience cultivated a highly collaborative environment. Biweekly retrospective meetings between the Lucid development team and our product team ensured our process remained agile, welcoming new ideas and suggestions for improvement. Lucid Reality Labs provided comprehensive support across all channels to promote and ensure the project's success. From the marketing team assisting with award applications to the growth and connection support with industry partners like Meta, Lucid’s assistance extended well beyond the development milestones.

A few minor preferences and suggestions for future work: communicating primarily on our internal messaging platform, Microsoft Teams, instead of Slack. Additionally, it would be beneficial to provide more comprehensive project and technical documentation for smoother project handovers.

I'm the head of the anesthesiology department at the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland (CHUV).

We were trying to bring innovation in the field of education for physicians, doctors, and anesthesiologists using VR.

Initially, I provided Lucid Reality Labs with some idea of my needs, as well as with 2–3 clinical scenarios for what we needed. The team has worked on these scenarios to design and develop the solution. This solution uses VR and custom software tailored for VR headsets. Since the launch, Lucid Reality Labs has worked on the feedback I provide to continuously improve the solution.

Throughout the project, Lucid Reality Labs has provided some interesting ideas on how we can improve the solution. These ideas have come from their own background, as these have been ideas I didn't have before.

There's nothing Lucid Reality Labs could improve on. I'm very happy with them, and every time I have an issue, I call Alex. He's very reactive and helps me find a solution within his team.

The Lucid Reality Labs team has been consistently ahead of schedule. In the one case where they needed more time to work on something, they let us know far in advance and explained in detail why it was the case. They provided regular updates via emailed progress reports, and constant communication via instant messaging. Overall, the Lucid team has been unusually communicative and clear!

Their diverse experience was incredibly valuable, especially during the discovery phase as our team was inexperienced in VR development and uncertain about options and directions. Lucid's team was clear from the beginning that anything is technically possible, but they would nudge us towards choices that made the most sense for our project goals and scope. We felt very understood and handled with care throughout the whole process.

Very minor: using premade assets could have simplified a tiny part of the project. We were not really aware this was an option until later. Once we discussed it with Lucid, this ended up working well for our project.
